Dear Society Members,
I hope that this message finds you fit and well and enjoying the warm summer weather.
As I am sure you are aware rainfall has for some considerable time been in very short supply and as a result the river is very low. With ongoing water quality concerns and forecast rising temperatures, both the Committee and I feel that we must act now to try to help protect and conserve our valuable wild fish stocks.
I am saddened that the first formal communication I have with you is to announce that in the interests of conserving our wild fish stocks we will, with effect from midnight tonight Wednesday 13th July 2022, close all CDAS waters to fishing. The waters will remain closed until such times as there is a reasonable improvement in river flow, water levels or water quality.
Updates with regards fishing Society waters will be posted on the website.
I would encourage you to start visiting the website on a regular basis as I hope this will become a good way to communicate fishing related news to you. In particular I would urge you to look at the News & Blogs section of the website at the Senedd Cymru Petition created by Michael Cowburn to “help improve water quality in the River Usk by upgrading sewage systems in the Usk valley” a Special Area of Conservation and where 88% of its water bodies are failing to meet their targets. We hope all members of the Society will support this petition.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation, we will be in touch again as soon as the conditions improve.
Regards
Mark McCloy
